CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Why Circus Arts? While you might pick up a skill or two to impress your friends, circus arts are more than party tricks. Our partner organization, Theatricks, promotes life skills through the practice and performance of circus arts.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – Theatricks embraces the philosophy that there is something for everyone, regardless of skill set.

SELF-DISCIPLINE – Students develop self-discipline and perseverance in facing daily challenges presented to them.

TEAMWORK – We create a culture of teamwork in which all students play an equally valuable role.

SELF-EXPRESSION – Circus training creates an outlet for managed risk taking, creativity and team building.

Bring the whole family! The Thursday night class is open to students and their caregivers!

CAMP DESCRIPTION:

Students will experience tight wire walking, juggling, diabolo (Chinese yo-yo), dancing sticks, plate spinning, balancing, tumbling, human pyramids, stilt walking, clown and slapstick comedy. This is all bundled together with an emphasis on team work, strength building, positive motivation, and mentorship.

This program is lead by Mark Lohr who is a 30+ year veteran of circus, theater and street performance. He has toured with The George Carden International Circus, worked with Ringing and Cirque De Sole, and featured in several International Clown festivals in Shanghai China. Mark works along side with his talented children who are all trained performers and circus coaches. Mark and his family all live here in our fair city of Frederick, MD and this is where his circus journey began.

CAMP DESCRIPTION:

Theatricks is proud to present their circus arts exploratory program at The Banner School. Campers will get an inside view of what it takes to be a circus performer. They will learn plate spinning, juggling, tight wire walking, and many other circus skills. At the end of the week, campers will have a final performance to showcase their new talents for friends and family.
